INTERNATIONAL
STARS DOMINATE
A.P., Key Largo,
FL, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005
(Gary Calder reporting)
The 2005, 6th
Annual America Outdoors Campground Beach Volleyball Tournament had a
decidedly international flair yesterday as stars from London and Prague led
strong foursomes into the finals of the 64 player, 16 team match-ups on the
beach court.

The "All The
Marbles" championship trophy was won in a lopsided, dominant
15 - 2 victory by the "SNAPPERS" over a dazed "LOST MARBLES" contingent.
Tournament MVP
Kevin Combs, a former King's College, S.C. basketball player, playing in his
first tourney here, teamed with another rookie, Prague test pilot Chip
Erwin, to play textbook dig-set-spike volleyball and overwhelm the mostly
"hit 'n hope" styles of the other 15 teams.

Fourteen-year-old female-phenom, Taryn Lewis, out of Cincinnati, put on a
digging demonstration that befuddled most of her elder competitors and
garnered her Rookie-of-the-Year as well as "Best-Digger" honors.

London's James "Touchy" Fealey added a measure of long absent finesse to the
sand venue in a valiant but losing Finals effort, while "Best All-Around
Athlete" Dave Bliss out of Cornell ('63 - '66 basketball) showed the crowd
the veterans could still "bring-it."
With the permanent closing of America Outdoors at the end of March, 2006 the
tournament moves to a new locale' next year probably at the
Miami Everglades Campground. Watch for the announcement at:
